Checklist for Successful Project Communication via Social Media

The European Research Executive Agency has published a checklist with handy tips and tricks for the communication of research projects via social media.

Social media offers cost-efficient opportunities to present you research to an international audience, enables real-time research discussions, fosters connections with potential project partners and supports the development of your research network.

The following tips and tricks can help you to successfully present your EU project via social media:

  • Choose the platform which fits the best to your audience
  • Coordinate the social media activities centrally via a predefined account
  • Set dates for the posts in advance
  • Use key milestones, events and publications as occasions for posts
  • Interact with the research community, for example via comments and questions
  • Check the success of your posts to find out what works
  • Use user-friendly language and try to avoid technical terms
  • Vary the input and types of posts
  • Publish posts on a regular basis, preferably in the morning or evening
  • Tag profiles, e.g. project partners and EU accounts, in your posts
  • Use a coherent visual appearance and wording for all communication channels (social media, homepage, newsletter etc.)
  • Stay up to date with social media trends
  • Use accessible image and text language
