ERC Welcomes ‘Super Grants’ – Larger, Longer-Term Funding – Open to Global Talent
The European Research Council (ERC) is developing a new funding instrument: ‘super grants’ with larger budgets and longer durations, supported by a substantial additional budget offered by the European Commission.
As with all ERC funding, selection will be based solely on scientific excellence, open to all disciplines and nationalities. Researchers must be based in, or ready to move to, the EU or associated countries.
To attract top global talent, the relocation bonus for researchers outside the European Union (e.g., the U.S.) will double from €1 million to €2 million.

For established, highly accomplished researchers with at least 10–12 years of research experience, we recommend the ERC Advanced Grant as a short-term alternative. The current call opened a few days ago. The deadline is August 28. The call offers €2.5 million, plus an additional €1 million for start-up costs, for a maximum duration of 5 years, and is open to researchers of all nationalities.
