As part of the publication of the ERC work programme for 2026, the final details on ERC Plus, the new funding line for top researchers, have been announced.
The new ERC funding line has been designed for top researchers (of any nationality) who want to pursue more ambitious research projects (beyond the regular ERC funding lines Starting Grants, Consolidator Grants, Advanced Grants, Synergy Grants and Proof of Concept). The maximum funding amounts to €7 million for a period of 4 to 7 years and can be applied for by researchers of all career stages and disciplines. A lump sum is awarded to cover all direct and indirect project costs. Principal Investigators (PIs) must devote at least 30 percent of their working time to the project and spend at least 50 percent of their working time in the EU or an associated Horizon Europe country. Thirty ERC Plus grants are expected to be awarded in 2026.
The ERC Plus Call for 2026 opens on June 2, 2026. Submissions will be accepted until September 2, 2026.
